Resilience

Resilience is another friend’s Word of the Year. As it turns out she is having to be very resilient through a major health problem. She knows she’s here because God wasn’t done with her on this earth.

I was visiting with another friend who is facing something with her job that she didn’t expect at 61, and I also faced something this spring I didn’t expect as I turned 65. We started our current jobs the same month in 1996. It struck me as I went to bed last night, that we were 31 and 35 at the time, and that just hit differently than saying we’ve been here for 30 years.

Resilience was also the theme as we chatted. Her marriage was falling apart, mine had just ended. Oh the stories we have shared and the book we could write, if we remembered all the crazy times. We both had to be resilient and do the best for our children (her son and my two.) Here we are 30 years later facing challenges we didn’t expect. For me I’ve moved from the “shock and awe” to the “God knew better” phase.

For her it’s new and fresh and she has yet to see what will be. She too knows God is in the details.

Isa 40:31 “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Father help us learn well how to be resilient in this broken world. People and events disappoint us but You do not. Amen

I am a 56 yr old widow, who previously had been divorced twice. I have two adult children from my first marriage and 4 step children. People think I'm strong but it's just that I have deep faith roots. God is my Potter molding and shaping me, and refining me through the fiery kiln of life. God has made me beautiful and the strength people see is from Him. With each difficulty in life I remember: Jeremiah 29:11 "I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you."
